World Cup is Over (Vamos España!) Book Your Flights For the Next One!

Published July 23, 2026

With the World Cup and all the other major sporting events (tennis, golf, etc.) now over — well, the Tour de France is still going, to be fair, but I'm not sure it pulls the same audience — we can all take a break from being glued to the TV and get on with our daily lives.

If you're like my girlfriend, however, you might want to keep the momentum going for your newfound passion for football and book your place (well, at least your flights) for the next World Cup. We know it's going to be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco in the summer of 2030, so why wait?

How far ahead can you actually book?

Well, because airlines don't sell tickets that far ahead, that's why. It turns out most of the major international carriers will offer tickets up to 350–362 days out, while most (US) domestic and (European) budget airlines will sell tickets up to 185–270 days out.

So we'll need to wait until at least early 2029 before we can realistically think about making travel arrangements — probably not a bad buffer to start saving, to be honest.

Though I'm not sure I'll be able to keep my girlfriend enthusiastic about football for that long...

Deals to tide you over

In the meantime, here are some hand-picked deals from two major US airports to destinations across Asia. If you'd like hand-crafted deals like these regularly from an airport of your choice, sign up and set your home origin.

Prices and discounts were correct when this was first sent out on 23 July 2026 — fares move fast, so check the live price before booking.

Underrated megacity stop before Bali or Java's temples; strongest % off on this list.

Beach season without peak-summer crowds; pair with a few nights in Bangkok.
  5. Chiang Mai — $661 (~47% off) · Cathay · 12 Jan 2027
Temples, night markets, cooler northern evenings — ideal if beaches aren't the goal.
Chiang Mai, a personal Thailand favourite

From New York (JFK)

Same January window as LA, a bit pricier from the East Coast — still a strong long-haul fare.
